• A look behind the curtain

I thought it would be neat to show some pics and describe a little about my process.

I use a comination of a 3d printer and actual MOTU parts from beater figures. Many of which my buddy MOTU4ME sends my way.

When it comes to the head sculpts, I use a Modeling/Sculpting Software called Zbrush.

Once Printed, I use Acrylic Paint Markers and Spray Paint.  Once dry I finish off with a Gloss Enamel to help protect the paint.

Take a look at some of the things i am working on and some of the Inventory parts I have to speed orders when they come.

    Inventory Shelf -

The Island of unwanted prototypes. These are various heads that were used to make other figures but did not make the final cut.

First version of the Bozo the clown inspired head. You can see that the hair did not wrap around the head and the paint was a little different. In working with Firemandan, he made some suggestions and I ended up with the second pick.

The last thing i will share is the Magnetic Body ( I am still tweaking ) - I started with a Skeletor Body as the base with Series 1, but after talking to some customers they wanted Articulation. The best way i could think was to use Magnets. That required me to rethink the base body.  I ended up using He-man style arms and added a cavity for Magnets. I kept the Skeletor body but placed cavities for magnets on the arms and head. For the torso/pants - i needed something to cover the legs as they stick out a little bit compared to the original legs that used a band. Thus the Bat inspired symbol or for some figs the Pizza. This is a piece I want to get better at.  For now here are some pics of the first prototype, where the magnets stuck out too much making the neck and head look odd.

This was a head sculpt of Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors, eventhough i like it, it is a very difficult piece to paint and also 3d print with all the limbs.
